Megastructure-Hoover Dam Bypass


On December 2010 over the Christmas break i had a chanced to visit one of the most extraordinary that man ever made. This project finished on October 2010, it cost $240 million dollars, the bridge itself cost $110 million. Hoover Damn Bypass, was the first concrete-steel composite arch bridge built in the United States, and includes the longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. The bridge provides a crossing of the Colorado River for U.S. Route 93, linking the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona 1,600 feet (490 m) downstream from the Hoover Dam. The length is 1,900 feet, with height of 900 feet, and with the longest span of 1,060 feet. More than 17,000 cars and trucks are expected to use the new bridge daily, a number expected to grow by 50 percent over the next 20 years.
